Blocked Tear Duct
(Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction)
A blocked tear duct is the most common cause of persistent tearing (epiphora).
It can often be managed by a surgical procedure.
Dermatochalasis
(Loose Eyelid Skin)
Loose eyelid skin is a common sign of aging around the eyes.
It is often due to a weakening in the connective tissue around the eye and a loss of skin elasticity.
Loose eyelid skin can be managed with a surgical procedure called a blepharoplasty.
Ectropion
Ectropion is an outward turning of the eyelid margin.
It usually involves the lower lid.
It can be managed by lubricating eye drops or surgery to tighten the eyelid.
Entropion
Entropion is an inward turning of the eyelid margin.
It can cause corneal damage and scarring.
Entropion can often be repaired with a surgical procedure.
Lid Lesions
Many different kinds of ‘lumps and bumps’ can appear on or around the eyelid.
Most of these lesions are benign although some may represent early skin cancer.
These lumps can be surgically removed for both the treatment of suspicious lesions and/or to improve the appearance of the eyelids.
Ptosis
(Droopy Eyelids)
Ptosis is the drooping of the upper eyelid margin.
Patients often complain of difficulty reading.
Ptosis can often be repaired by a surgical procedure.
